StyleOnTheCouch Loves: Moss Austin

During my trip to Texas GreedyGrechen contacted me via Twitter to let me know about MOSS designer consignment store, a boutique located on South Lamar, Austin. She told me it was a must visit and so I trekked there for a little exploring…

Sari the boutique owner was incredibly helpful and patient as I lugged about twenty different outfits into the changing rooms with me.  I found amazing deals on clothing from Chanel, Gucci and Matthew Williamson to name just a few examples.  A Gucci trench dress caught my eye but felt a little too big for me (Moss model on the left, me on the right, below):

I was also very impressed with the range and quality of shoes on display.  I found a wonderful pair of chunky Marni heels I think I will wear to the IFB conference next month, a BCBG black dress with cutout shoulders and a cute fitted black jacket all at an absolute steal. I’ll post the designer bargains in outfits posts in the weeks to come.  I am now on a spending ban until my birthday month of November (eek and please keep me in check Blog Reader).

Moss set prices jointly with customers who donate clothes and accessories for sale, at around 25% of the original retail price (current seasons are generally higher however).  Prices are full for the first 30 days, 25% off during the second 30 days, then 50% during the final 30 days, after which owners can collect unsold wares or they are donated.  I almost bought a pair of acne jeans for $40, don’t ask me why not, I probably was too busy starting loving at this Pucci bean clutch:

MOSS have a fabulous blog which lists all their new items.  Shown below: Herve Leger coral bandage skirt; Velvet purple tank top; Etro handbag and YSL espadrilles.

Below: Alaia Dress; Alexander McQueen Booties:

I found so many treasures in this shop I’m addicted to and obsessively checking their new stock.  Do pay Sari a visit if you are in Austin, but call Moss if you spy anything on their blog you would like to purchase.

Do you have a favourite charity shop or consignment store near you, Blog Reader? Where do you hunt for bargains?

What a cool store, concept and brands! I wish I could travel right now to Austin to see this for myself.
My favorite charity store is Merci in Paris. They have a great selection of clothes (including Etoile Isabel Marant), homewear, Annick Goutal candles and fragrances at low prices. It’s a really pleasant place to shop at and they have very good restaurants too.
PS. You are going to look very stylish if you go to the IFB conf’ with your Marni heels.

Moss sounds like my dream! I’m so envious of all the wonderful things you found (and big bonus that they all came at bargain prices!) It’s a shame you have to be on a shopping ban- I sympathise completely, since I spend about 50% of my life on one- but it sounds like you will be able to keep yourself entertained with all of the wonderful things you picked up on your trip until them 🙂

  12. Such an amazing find! You had me at the gorgeous Chanel blazer in the first photo…I think there’s a trip to Austin in my future now.

Ok who is gonna lend me the $1995 for the Chanel jacket. Or maybe a timeshare arrangement 🙂
    Em x

    • You know Em the jacket was a lot less than that because the store is a consignment boutique. I think you can find prices on the website for Moss – or even email them for further information. Let me know if you buy anything from them in the future, would love to see…

      • emma allen says:

thanks for that hon. I’ll drop them a line and let you know if I have any luck. I own one chanel jacket – a stunnig navy and white boucle vintage one – and there really is nothing to compare to the feel of wearing it. Even with my ripped, oldes jeans and scuffed pumps I feel super chic 😉

      • Emma I checked out your site and I’d love to do a feature sometime. Email me if you’re interested. xo

That’s awesome! I wish we had something like that in Cincinnati – we do have a couple ok consignment boutiques but (despite what their advertisements say) their true designer selection is limited.
