The French Connection

A perfect meeting of Europe and NYC: French Connection.  I have a deep affection for the British label French Connection.  They were my go to brand when I wanted to ‘treat’ myself at uni (usually with my student loan rather than my hard-earned wages from the bar but aaaanyway) and I’ve bought many pieces from them that have stayed with me for years and retained their quality.  This weekend my mind wandered to the issue of what to wear for events and shows during Fashion Week and with a desire to keep things simple and clean, I remembered this French Connection tailored jumpsuit, above*.

If the preview is anything to go by, I’m going to rediscover my love for French Connection all over again with their new spring collection.  The pieces are versatile and largely neutral in hue with a splash of print and citrus – peachy tones and Pantone‘s colour of the year, ‘tangerine’.  The usual shift and sheath dresses remain, something I see as a French Connection signature.  You see a hint of sports luxe which is a favourite trend of mine for the summer, with tailoring as well as bohemian skirts and dresses.

Above, left to right: Lost and Found Maxi; Ribbon Knits Dress; Nix and Nights Flared Dress; Izzy Jersey Top and Ergo Skinny Patchwork Jean.

My favourite piece from the spring preview is the dip dye maxi skirt:

The Coletta Combat Trousers and Bric a Block top comes a close second:

Check out the entire spring preview here.

Back to my outfit, I have two questions.  Firstly, what is the difference between a catsuit and a jumpsuit, since I am never sure how to describe this one piece, and secondly with the fashion weeks approaching, if you attend, how do you dress for the occasion? xo

*accessorizing this will be the next issue, I can tell.

I love the jersey top and patchwork jean for spring. And you look fab in the jumpsuit…I think it’s a jumpsuit and not a catsuit. I think of a catsuit as a jumpsuit that fits very close to the body everywhere kind of like leggings.

Doll you look AMAZING. I wish I had the figure to rock a jumpsuit like that! PS that ribbon dress is very Herve! Are you going to get it?

  3. You look so stylish!! xo

i would say that what you’re wearing would be considered more along the lines of a jump suit. a cat suit is very tight-fitting i think?? you look gorgeous, i like the straight lines of the silohouette!! and i adore french connection, i always have 😉 😉

I am a big fan of their brand too – this jumpsuit is beautiful on you!

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, a catsuit is formfitting, whereas a jumpsuit is simply one-piece and can be in any cut. Yours is exceptionally sophisticated – I have never been a fan of the jumpsuit, finding it too trendy, but this post has instantly changed my mind 🙂

French Connection is not a brand I have much familiarity with. Although it’s sold in Canada, it doesn’t have much of a reputation. Based on that dipdye maxi, I’m thinking it may be time for that to change!

    You look fierce lady!
I think in terms of accessories, maybe a couple of cuffs and a bold ring would be the perfect accessories.

    • I found a fabulous tangerine maxi dress from a designer called Anthony Scott, I will let you have the website link (I don’t think they have their website up and running yet). Let me know if you buy anything from the FCUK spring collection, would love to see!

You look hot! But in a professional, I’m here because I know what I’m talking about kinda way 😉
I love French connection too, and have the same found memories of saving up for special things from there growing up. My first *proper* pay ( not pocket money) went on the most beautiful pair of jeans from there that I’ve even owned. I still dream about them, and that body *sigh 😉 xxx

    Hi there !
You are absolutely beautiful in this outfit, you wear it to perfection ! I would like to thank you for your support and your input, there are precious and give me something to think about and tools or ideas to make my life better. Thank you !

  19. You look awesome in that JUMPSUIT! Yes!! A catsuit is so form-fitting that you use it as a base layer under other clothes, like a short skirt, for example. (Unless you are starring in the newest X-Men flick!) But I have an inkling that you knew that already. You look so long and lean in that jumpsuit, btw. Gorgeous lady!!

  20. You look TOO FABULOUS in that jumpsuit! You’d make a perfect model for it … go submit! 😉 I’ll be able to wear the brighter tangerine colors that are in this year, but not the peachy tones … peach, pale yellow and mint green are NOT my colors … I always look better in brighter colors or black with my warm skin tone. What are your best colors? ~xoSM

    • Oo interesting question. I find (surprisingly, I admit) that I can carry off pale blues and pinks well, and orange too (shock, horror) but colours that don’t wash with me at all are nudes and tan – I just look pale and sick. So I need to be careful with these colours. I find it curious how some tones work against different skin tones. I’d love to have a proper “colour analysis” some time to see if I can discover anything new.

You look beautiful and I would consider this outfit a jumpsuit, not a catsuit. When I think of a catsuit I instantly think of Halle Berry in the movie Cat Woman, and your outfit is MUCH MORE Sophisticated and Ladylike.
On another note, I can’t wait to wear the tangerine color for spring and I might have to “treat” myself to an item from French Connection since I just got my leftover student loan money last week. =P

I really like French Connection too – there’s always something to lust after ;P
